It's magic! New product launch

Style, specialists in high quality moveable wall systems, has installed the first DORMA Magic Glass partitioning wall in the UK. This ingenious ‘transparent to opaque’ solution, offers instant privacy at the press of a button whilst retaining all the benefits of an acoustic, glass dividing wall.

Magic Glass features liquid crystals suspended in a conductive layer. As soon as an electric current is passed through the two layers, the crystals re-arrange themselves in tight formation to create a clear glass wall. Turn the Magic Glass off and the wall turns into a milky, opaque partition, giving privacy when required.

Working with Originate Architects and main contractors, Parkeray, Style was specified to create flexible space in the new UK head offices of DBRS, a globally recognised provider of timely credit rating options. Situated on the 31st floor of the iconic Walkie Talkie building in central London, the new contemporary offices have been fitted out to a high specification throughout, with the Magic Glass partition reflecting this attention detail.

“Magic glass is a superb new addition to the wide-ranging benefits of the DORMA Moveo system,” said Julian Sargent, Style’s group managing director. “If you’re looking for light and visibility it’s a stunning glass partitioning wall. Yet, if privacy is required, the wall turns into a milky opaque glass element at the flick of a wall-mounted, or remote control, switch.”

DORMA Hüppe’s new Magic Glass extends the applications for moveable walls. Not only can an open plan space be sub-divided into smaller private rooms but this additional feature means you can choose the level of privacy too. Combined with 50dB Rw acoustic performance, staff at DBRS can conduct meetings in privacy, reassured that people walking by cannot see into the room.

“This is an extremely exciting development to DORMA’s glass range and we’re expecting huge demand from a diverse cross section of sectors including healthcare, education, hospitality and corporate,” confirms Sargent.
