The construction industry continues to face economic pressure, supply chain challenges and increasing performance and sustainability expectations. The roofing sector is not immune to these pressures.
Increasingly, confidence in a roofing specification extends beyond product performance alone. It includes confidence in technical expertise, supply chain resilience, environmental credibility and the assurance that a manufacturer will continue to support a building throughout its lifecycle.
Recent investments by Bauder, including a new distribution centre at Gateway 14 in Stowmarket and the refurbishment of its Ipswich headquarters, demonstrate how sustainable growth can strengthen both business capability and project outcomes. Together, the projects reflect an approach to growth rooted in long-term thinking, environmental responsibility and investment in the infrastructure needed to support customers for decades to come.
With the key handover ceremony last July, Bauder’s new 44,000 sq ft distribution centre at Gateway 14 became the largest distribution hub within the company’s network, strengthening national logistics capability and supporting increased demand across the country.

Sustainability was embedded into the project from the outset. Designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent standard, the building incorporates measures designed to minimise environmental impact and support efficient operation:
After more than 45 years in Ipswich, Bauder has also completed a major refurbishment of its UK headquarters, at the site it has occupied in the town since 2009. Rather than relocate or replace its existing premises, Bauder chose to invest in and modernise the facility, extending office space to accommodate a growing staff and improving building performance while preserving a long-standing local presence.

Explaining the motivation behind the investment, Bauder’s UK joint-managing directors, Yvonne Higgins and John Llewellyn, said:
“Our refurbished UK headquarters, together with our new distribution centre at Gateway 14, represent significant investments in Bauder’s future and reflect our commitment to combining business growth with environmental responsibility across the roofing sector of the construction industry.”
The project serves as a strong example of how refurbishment can deliver meaningful sustainability gains alongside operational improvements. Key features include:
Reduced specification risk
Major investment in UK infrastructure demonstrates Bauder’s long-term commitment, providing reassurance that the manufacturer behind the specification has the stability and capability to support projects into the future.
Enhanced specification services
The expansion of Bauder’s headquarters supports the ongoing development of its technical and specification functions, helping architects and specifiers access specialist guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from concept design to project completion.
Confidence in long-term support
Sustained investment in people, facilities and technical expertise demonstrates a long-term commitment to supporting customers and their buildings, helping provide reassurance that support will remain available long after installation.
Supply chain resilience
The Gateway 14 distribution centre strengthens logistics capability and product availability nationwide, helping reduce procurement uncertainty and to support programme certainty across projects throughout the UK.
Sustainability credibility
Both projects provide tangible evidence of the sustainability principles Bauder promotes. By applying its own roofing, insulation and renewable energy technologies within its facilities, the company has created real-world demonstrations of their performance and environmental benefits.
Bauder’s completion of these projects sends a clear message. Through sustained investment in infrastructure, people and sustainable development, the company continues to strengthen its ability to support architects, specifiers, contractors and clients. In a market where certainty is increasingly valued, that combination of stability, technical expertise and sustainable growth provides valuable reassurance for those specifying roofing systems designed to perform for the long-term.
