ROCKWOOL has developed a new CPD for architects entitled ‘Acoustic Standards in Schools’. The CPD aims to explain the science behind acoustics, the latest building regulations, best practice guidance on acoustics and explore the most appropriate sound insulation solutions for education environments.

IKO PLC, global leader in roofing, waterproofing and insulation products, held a ‘Spade in the Ground’ event on Friday 10th March to mark the start of construction of its 470,000ft² PIR insulation factory at the Alconbury Weald development in Cambridgeshire.

Bostik has launched a new self-adhesive thermal acoustic wrap designed to control noise breakout on plastic rainwater and soil pipes, as well as HVAC ducting, which is up to 20% quicker to install than traditional acoustic insulation products.

Fluctuations in temperature and moisture cause movement in the subfloor and lead to cracks transferring to the tile covering, or worse, cause a loss of bond between the covering and the substrate which can result in overall damage to the surface covering. For this reason, industry standards state that all tile and stone installations should include the use of movement joints.

Innovative, high performance External Wall Insulation (EWI) by Saint-Gobain Weber has been specified for a proportion of homes in the extensive property upgrade programme being carried out by Stevenage Borough Council in Hertfordshire. Seventy six homes have benefitted from this improved thermal efficiency and aesthetics treatment in 2015 and a further 150 properties are included in the 2016 program.

The application of closed cell polyurethane foams for building insulation has been around for over 30 years, but recently the availability of an open cell option has come onto the market. Architects, specifiers and building consultants may well be confused as to the merits of these different systems.
