Several years after 3deluxe transformed the downtown Noor Island into a green, urban paradise, the German architecture office is designing a vibrant, attractive urban beach with a marina as part of more comprehensive tourist infrastructure measures in Sharjah City – a metropolis that is home to millions.

One of the most fascinating challenges of our time is transforming our cities into people-oriented, climate-resilient places that are as carbon-neutral as possible. The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing our cities to address the question of how they need to change to become more crisis-proof, sustainable and simultaneously more pleasant places to live in.

The Biotope building, located in the middle of the important European business district of Euralille, in the French city of Lille, is an iconic 30,000m² seven-storey architectural complex that transforms conventional office accommodation into a self-sustaining ecological community.

What will our cities look like in a post-COVID-19 era? 3deluxe was commissioned by New York-based organisation #WeThePlanet (WTP) to create an inspirational structure that nurtures and investigates new opportunities for people-friendly architecture in harmony with nature. Here, FC&A explores the German firm’s forward-thinking campus that projects a future where people and nature can live harmoniously alongside one another.
