This is springtime. Historically, it is also the time to experience the annual Surface Design Show held annually in London. Sadly, that was not to be because of its COVID cancellation until February next year. Happily, the Surface Design Awards themselves were unaffected and this year attracted 113 entries from 18 different counties. The three main winners are illustrated here and detailed at the end.

Kährs unveiled two ultra-matt wood flooring collections at Clerkenwell Design Week this year, Lux and Lumen. Recently winning Gold for 'Best Flooring' at the 2017 House Beautiful Awards, Kährs' Lux collection includes nine one-strip plank format designs in an array of natural colours, which are mirrored in Lumen's three-strip and two-strip designs.

Kährs' newly launched French Pattern wood flooring design has been shortlisted in the 2018 'International Design & Architecture Awards', within the 'Hard Flooring' category. The awards, held by 'design et al' magazine, celebrate some of the best design schemes, product launches and innovation from throughout the world.

The TTA Awards 2017 once again provided a great showcase for the tiling industry. This year the Awards, hosted by Emma Jesson, took place at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel in central London. The winners of 22 categories were declared during the course of the evening – six of these being determined by public vote, the rest being adjudicated by the TTA’s panel of expert judges.

RIBA has announced the shortlist for its annual West Midlands Regional Awards. These projects will be hoping to emulate the success of The Master’s House in Herefordshire, winner of the RIBA West Midlands Building of the Year 2016. Over the years, the awards have become the benchmark in identifying the very best standards in architecture across the West Midlands.

Remmers have won the prestigious FeRFA Award for Large Industrial Flooring Project of The Year.

The 2015 Structural Timber Awards were hailed a great success by industry leaders and innovators from across the timber construction sector and the 2016 event is set to build on this success. With two new additional award categories and a judging panel made up of renowned industry experts - organisers are preparing to receive a record number of entries as the awards grow in recognition and prestige.
