Build Focus

The Dutch city of Almere was built on reclaimed land that was once the Zuiderzee – a shallow sea bay in the Netherlands. The first house in this planned new town was completed in 1976. Since then, the city has grown to a population of nearly 220,000, which means Almere is well on its way to being the fifth-largest city in the country. However, it lacks a museum of note, befitting a metropolis of such stature. Local, provincial and national Government administrators agreed that a museum should be on top of the priority list to raise the city’s appeal.

Aytac Architects, an award-winning architecture and research practice based in Istanbul, Turkey, is proud to proceed with its development of the DE Bodrum Museum, a custom design for contemporary Turkish Artist Devrim Erbil. Located in Bodrum and set against the blue waters of the Aegean Sea, the design was recognised as a WA Award Cycle 40 winner in 2021 as part of the World Architecture Community Awards.

The way homeowners and tenants use their homes – especially their kitchens – is constantly evolving, and no more so than in the last two years. The function of a house has transformed since the pandemic, now becoming a blended place and changing the way architects will design spaces in the future.

Working in partnership with Jonathan Tuckey Design, Vale Southern Construction has constructed an award-winning sustainable building, which is home to a theatre in the grounds of an independent Berkshire school.
