'Order order' in the transformation of a court house to a sumptuous 5* boutique hotel

Selectaglaze assisted in turning an old draughty court house into a warm and peaceful boutique hotel.

Originally a building where Judges passed sentences and the Police placed criminals under arrest, Grade II Listed Old Street Magistrates Court and Police Station, has been converted into a 5* boutique hotel.

To convert this Grade II Listed building from a Courthouse to a hotel, serious consideration had to be given to find ways to enhance the thermal retention as well as reducing noise from the streets outside.

The primary windows could not be changed; so Selectaglaze was approached by the main contractor McAleer and Rushe to offer a solution for the various window styles. 106 units were fitted including curved, raked, and a beautiful double floor height feature window which was 5.287m high and 2.045m in width. The circular windows required particular care and a bespoke fixing method for installation had to be created to meet the client’s requirements.

Secondary glazing is an independent window installed on the room side of a building which reduces noise ingress, making a reduction of 45dB easily achievable. As well as reducing external noise, secondary glazing can reduce heat loss by up to 50%.

With great attention to detail paid to the design and build of this magnificent conversion, Old Street Hotel is on target to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.

Selectaglaze is the specialist in the design, manufacture and installation of secondary glazing, with fifty years’ experience it has a wealth of experience working on all building types.
