ROCKWOOL® Supports Fire Protection for Structural Steel with New CPD

CPD advises specifiers on fire protection requirements for structural steel sections

ROCKWOOL has launched a new CPD (Continuing Professional Development) module to help fire protection stakeholders design out risk for steel frame constructions. The new module, ‘Passive Fire Protection for Structural Steel’, is available now at rockwool.com/uk and has been developed by the stone wool insulation manufacturer to enhance industry knowledge on up to date regulations and examine how specifiers can maximise fire protection periods with carefully chosen insulation materials.

Recognising the expanding role of structural steel in modern construction as cities grow taller and more ambitious, ROCKWOOL has designed the new CPD to make it easier for designers and specifiers to understand the role of insulation in adding fire resistance.

The CPD also explores how specifiers can build in long-lasting thermal and acoustic performance by choosing non-combustible stone wool insulation.

“There has been a great deal of focus on fire safety in high-rise buildings in the past few years, and understandably so. As structural steel is central to high-rise construction, not to mention a huge portion of low and medium rise developments, we believe it’s more important than ever for designers to carefully consider passive fire protection options for structural steel members,” explains Coral Morgan, Product Manager – Fire Protection at ROCKWOOL UK.

“This new CPD has been designed to help specifiers achieve compliance with the latest regulations, which isn’t always straightforward. Insulation might not always be a designer’s first thought when it comes to fire protection, which is why we’re aiming to help develop industry knowledge and encourage specifiers to think carefully about what different insulation solutions can offer.”

The ‘Passive Fire Protection for Structural Steel’ CPD gives an overview of structural steel and steel frame construction, and outlines the key considerations that designers must keep in mind when specifying passive fire protection for steel members. It also covers up to date regulations, standards and testing protocols, and examines how ROCKWOOL BEAMCLAD® Solutions for structural steel offer the performance required.
