September 2013 issue

September is a significant month for the architecture and design community, marking the arrival of trend-led product ranges delivered through a number of creative platforms. The London Design Festival is one of the world’s most important annual design events, now in its tenth year. Taking place from 14th-22nd September, the programme is made up of over 300 events and exhibitions staged across the capital by a prestigious line up of organisers and partnerships.

100% Design is among the leading events in this collaboration, showcasing a whole spectrum of design solutions. Turn to page 38 for more information about this dedicated platform and for product highlights from some of the show’s key exhibitors.

As with any specification process, research is integral to the successful placement of materials – and it seems it is not just the design community that is being encouraged to take inspiration. With Part L changes expected for April 2014, the delays now present greater opportunities to research the market. In light of these postponed announcements, the Energy Efficiency Exhibitions is a timely series of events to learn about the efficiency measures in place and be one step ahead. The exhibition, comprising a showcase of vital suppliers, short demonstrations and seminars, will be on the road throughout September and is set to visit several venues across the country. Turn to page 36 to find out when the roadshow will be dropping by near you!

Also in this issue, FC&A explores the maintenance regime of natural wood products in a dedicated Coatings & Finishes focus. Steve Grimwood of OSMO highlights the broad spectrum of treatments on offer, and how they can prolong the look and performance of exterior building elements. Meanwhile, Kevin Roe of off-mains drainage specialist Kingspan Klargester explains how to choose the right solution.

As always, I hope you enjoy this issue. If you would like to access FC&A on the move, don’t forget you can also download the FC&A app for smart phones and tablets. Available free of charge via iTunes and Google Play, the FC&A app hosts the digital magazine as well as a number of other helpful specification tools and links.
