DICKIES & SKILLS FOR EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT THE NEXT GENERATION OF TRADES PEOPLE
Dickies, the internationally renowned workwear brand, have joined forces with Skills for Employment to supply professional quality workwear to a number of schools in Kent.
Skills for Employment are working in partnership with schools and the education system to deliver practical construction courses for all abilities.
The City & Guilds courses have been carefully selected to deliver the knowledge and practical skills to help learners take their first steps into a career in construction.
Its construction program is unique, using the City & Guilds qualification structure as a framework for learning. Working in partnership with the construction industry, the courses deliver an 'employment led' learning environment, with a real focus on apprenticeships and job opportunities for the future.
Through the unique partner engagement, learners enjoy a full work experience program and gain valuable site experience, working on larger scale projects and school maintenance work to put their knowledge and skills to the test under real work conditions.
Mascalls in Kent was the first school to sign up in September 2011 and the programme has proved to be a huge success with seven schools including special needs schools signed up for this year.
Dickies donated work trousers, boots, polo tops, fleeces and PPE equipment; moving forward Dickies will be supplying clothing at advantageous prices.
Joseph Buels, director at Skills for Employment commented: “It is essential that we have partners in order for the scheme to be successful. All our partners are proud to be giving something back to the education system and we know this experience will have a high value to future employers.”
Steve Bramley, area sales manager at Dickies enthused: “We are proud to be associated with Skills for Employment. Young people are the future of construction and we are proud to part of this great initiative and build long term relationships to support the students when they gain employment.”
